I Asked God

Inspired by a popular spiritual reflection, this piece is written in my own voice and heart.

I asked God for someone with a good heart.

He gave me someone with a bruised heart.

I began to cry and asked why.

God said, “I gave you someone with a bruised heart because they have experienced bullies and will be good to you.”

I asked God for someone strong.

He gave me someone who had fallen many times but kept getting back up.

I didn’t understand.

God said, “True strength is not found in muscles or pride — it’s found in resilience and humility.”

🩷

I asked God for someone patient.

He gave me someone who had waited years to be loved right.

I questioned why.

God said, “They will never rush your healing. They know what it means to wait with hope.”

💚

I asked God for someone joyful.

He gave me someone who had known deep sorrow.

I wondered how joy could come from that.

God said, “The deepest joy often comes from those who have cried the hardest and still chose to smile.”

💜

I asked God for someone honest.

He gave me someone who had been lied to, deeply and painfully.

I didn’t see the connection.

God said, “They will never want to cause the pain they’ve felt. Their honesty will be rooted in compassion.”

🧡

I asked God for someone kind.

He gave me someone who had been mistreated and still chose kindness.

I said, “But they are scarred.”

God replied, “Kindness forged in pain is the kind that changes lives.”

💕

I asked God for someone romantic.

He gave me someone who wrote poetry in silence but never had anyone to read it to.

I asked why they seemed so quiet.

God said, “They’ve been saving their tenderness for someone who sees them.”

💛

I asked God for someone faithful.

He gave me someone who had once been betrayed but refused to give up on love.

I didn’t expect that.

God said, “Faithfulness isn’t proven by perfection. It’s proven by choice — even after heartbreak.

🩶

I asked God for someone confident.

He gave me someone who had to rebuild their self-worth from ashes.

I felt unsure.

God said, “Confidence earned through struggle makes them gentle with yours.”

💜

I asked God for someone who would bring me peace.

He gave me a warrior who had been through war — not with weapons, but with words, with silence, with abandonment.

I cried, “But they carry so much pain.”

God said, “They have fought for peace within themselves, and now they will fight to protect it in you.”

❤️

I asked God for someone authentic.

He gave me someone who has pretended to be okay just to survive.

I said, “But they seem unsure of themselves at times.”

God whispered, “That’s how you know they’re real — they’ve walked through the fire and stripped away everything false. What’s left is honest and pure.”

🩵

I asked God for someone to love me.

He gave me someone whose heart had been shattered more than once.

I asked, “Why someone broken?”

God said, “Because when they choose to love you, it won’t be out of need — it will be a sacred, conscious choice. This love is more than romance. This love will be the kind of love that holds on through every storm.”
